The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers announced that Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., who was scheduled to speak during the association's 2008 Insurance Legislative Summit has had to cancel his appearance.

Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn., will replace Mr. Bachus and address member this Wednesday.

Mr. Tanner is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and a co-founder of the congressional Blue Dog Coalition.

The Insurance Legislative Summit, sponsored by CIAB and the Reinsurance Association of America, will be held at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., beginning at 9 a.m.

Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., a member of the Senate Banking Committee and sponsor of a surplus lines reform measure in the Senate, will be the first speaker, followed by Mr. Tanner and Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La., ranking GOP member on the House Ways and Means Committee.

Political commentator Charlie Cook, editor of the Cook Report and political columnist and commentator, will also address the meeting. He is expected to discuss the results of today's Super Tuesday presidential primaries where voters in 22 states cast their ballots.
