The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents said on Feb. 27-28 in Washington, D.C. it will hold its annual meeting where members lobby members of Congress.
An orientation and briefing session for the 26th Federal Legislative Summit will be held on Feb. 27 at the Marriott Crystal City in Arlington, Va., the group said.
A main topic of this year's meeting, PIA said, will be members' ongoing efforts to thwart any transfer of insurance regulation and supervision from the states to the federal government.
"PIA is adamantly opposed to all proposals for federal regulation of insurance," said PIA National President Robert Page. "State oversight of our industry has worked well for over a century."
On Feb. 28, participants will gather for a breakfast program featuring remarks by PIA leaders and the keynote address by Claire Shipman, ABC-TV News senior correspondent who reports on politics for ABC's Good Morning America and provides analysis for ABC's This Week
Ms. Shipman is slated to offer her perspective on politics in this presidential election year and her views on the changing nature of women in politics and in power.
The remainder of the day will be spent by members meeting with their elected representatives in the House and Senate.
The day concludes with the annual fundraising and awards dinner of the PIA Political Action Committee (PIAPAC).
