John Leonard, the Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company Group's president and chief executive officer, has been designated the 2008 ACORD board chairman.
Pearl River, N.Y.-based ACORD, a data standards group, said this is Mr. Leonard's second time chairing its board, having previously served in 2001.
Mr. Leonard began with workers' compensation insurer MEMIC in 1993 after a 27-year career with The Travelers.
While at Travelers he led the Commercial Lines Agency Marketing and Underwriting Division, said ACORD. He is a former president of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) and chairman of its executive committee.
He also serves on the board for the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) and is a member of the National Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Pool Board, the announcement said.
Currently, Mr. Leonard sits on the boards of MEMIC, MEMIC Indemnity Company, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and the Pine Tree Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He received the Distinguished Citizen Award presented by the Pine Tree Council in 2001, and in 2003 was inducted into the Maine Business Hall of Fame, ACORD noted.
The MEMIC Group, including Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company and MEMIC Indemnity Company, is a regional insurer specializing in workers' compensation throughout the Northeast.
In addition, ACORD announced three new members on the ACORD board of directors for 2008: Lawrence E. Blakeman, MetLife; Robert Slocum, Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America; and Andreas Beerli, Swiss Re.
