Chicago-based insurer CNA Financial Corporation has named John A. Beckman senior vice president and chief risk officer effective mid-January.

As chief risk officer, Mr. Beckman will be responsible for determining appropriate risk tolerances as well as measuring and monitoring risk throughout CNA.

CNA said his appointment will enhance the company's focus on enterprise risk management, which was led by executive vice president Mike Fusco in his dual role as chief risk officer and chief actuary. Mr. Fusco will continue as executive vice president and chief actuary.

Mr. Beckman recently served as president of ReAdvisory, an operation responsible for consulting services, including enterprise risk management, for specialty reinsurance broker Carvill, CNA said.

Previously, Mr. Beckman worked at CNA Re where he served in various leadership positions, including chief risk officer responsible for exposure management, analysis and reporting as well as its retrocessional reinsurance program.

CNA also announced that Tom Stone will join the company in mid-January as vice president of catastrophe modeling and reporting. He will report directly to Mr. Beckman.
