The Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) Foundation said it has raised $55,000 in contributions for the Walter Reed Society from PLUS, its members and PLUS-affiliated companies.
Walter Reed Society is a nonprofit charity incorporated separately from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The Walter Reed Society's mission is to enhance patient support and improve morale by funding special unmet needs of soldiers and their families during treatment and recovery.
In addition to its fundraising, the PLUS Foundation said on Nov. 6, the day prior to the PLUS Annual Conference, it supplied 48 PLUS Foundation volunteers to host a dinner and entertainment event at Walter Reed for 250 recovering servicemen and women, family members and caregivers.
Volunteers served dinner, dined with guests and distributed door prizes.
Walter Grote, a volunteer from Travelers, said listening to service members' battlefield stories and seeing their injuries "was a piercing reminder of the toll the war takes and the ultimate sacrifices these men and women make for our country."
