The Worcester, Mass.-based Hanover Insurance Group Inc. announced today that Mark Fitzgerald has been named chief underwriting officer for the insurer's surety bond business.

Mr. Fitzgerald, who assumes a newly created position, the company said, joins The Hanover from CNA Surety, where he served as director, New York City-Metro region. In this capacity, he led the company's re-entry into the market after a 30 year absence, building a contractor book working with the company's agent partners.

The new chief underwriting officer will work out of The Hanover's headquarters where he will oversee firm's contract and commercial surety bond business, the company said.

Prior to working with CNA Surety, Mr. Fitzgerald served as senior vice president-national surety leader at Travelers Indemnity's Gulf Surety Unit, where he helped streamline the company's underwriting operations.

Mary Jeanne Anderson, vice president, Bonds, said Mr. Fitzgerald's arrival “adds significant depth to our already-strong bond team at The Hanover.”
