The Foundation for Agency Management Excellence (FAME) has named nine college students to receive $5,000 scholarships to pursue careers in risk management and insurance.

FAME is the charitable foundation of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, which made the announcement yesterday during the 94th annual Insurance Leadership Forum held this week in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

The recipients are:

o Khadine Adams, a senior at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

o Derek Butts, a senior at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

o Dominique Hollins, a junior at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

o Samuel Sports, a junior at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business at Athens.

o Erin Stuchel, a senior at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business at Athens.

o Jessica Hussong, a senior at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

o Anthony Giombi, a junior at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

o Daria Surducan, a senior at California State University at Sacramento.

o Allison Kotchevar, a junior at California State University at Sacramento.

The FAME scholarship program began last year with four scholarship winners. The number has increased at the four colleges, all of which have well-regarded risk management programs.

"We are pleased to expand this important program this year, and it is our hope that the scholarship initiative will continue to grow so that we can help more schools and more students in coming years," said Frederick J. de Grosz, co-chairman of ABD Insurance & Financial Services Inc. and chairman of the FAME board of directors in a statement.

To be eligible for a FAME scholarship, students must be juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or better grade point average, have a declared major in risk management and insurance, and demonstrate financial need.
