Willis Group Holdings said it has named a new chairman and a new chief executive officer for its Japan operations.

The London-headquartered insurance brokerage firm said it has named Shoji Ohashi as representative director and chairman of Willis Japan Holdings KK and Yoshiki Yamamoto as the new director and chief executive officer.

Mr. Ohashi will report to John McDonnell, the chairman of the Japan global practice group.

Michael Abbott, the outgoing chairman and managing director of Willis Japan, will return to London to take up a new role within Willis International.

Mr. Ohashi joins Willis after retiring from his position as chairman of Marsh Japan at the end of 2004. He was chief representative of the Nashville, Tenn., office of Nissan Fire & Marine Insurance Company (USA), now Sompo Japan after the merger with Yasuda Fire and Marine.

Mr. Yamamoto also began his career at Nissan Fire & Marine and went on to become senior vice president in the global risk management department of Marsh Japan.

The appointments follow a recent office relocation in Tokyo that saw the centralization of four of Willis' Japanese entities into one office.
