Chicago-based insurance broker Aon Corp. and London-based Arup, an engineering and consulting firm, said they have formed a strategic alliance to provide pre- and post-loss consulting services to clients.

Aon said the alliance would increase the depth and breadth of Aon's Rapid Response, a loss mitigation and claims advocacy service created out of the firm's experience following the 2005 hurricane season.

Aon said its Rapid Response guarantees on-site expertise from a loss mitigation and insurance claim worker within 48-to-72 hours anywhere in the world.

The loss expert manages the initial activity surrounding the property loss and acta as an extension of the client's risk management department to ensure that a sound, pragmatic recovery plan is developed and implemented, the company said.

With Arup, Aon is introducing a new service, Rapid Response Engineered, a pre-loss service offer aimed at preparing clients for catastrophic events.

Aon's clients will also have access to Arup's catastrophic risk management consulting services. Their services include the development of long-term risk management solutions, site-specific risk assessment, and financial and engineering analysis.
