The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies announced that it has created a secure electronic insurance policy that can be sent out quicker and cut paper flow.
ePolicy will "streamline the delivery of personal insurance policies and reduce environmental waste," the Warren, N.J.-based company promised.
Andrew McElwee, executive vice president, Chubb & Son, and chief operating officer, Chubb Personal Insurance said in a statement that ePolicy will not only shorten the distribution process by several days, it will also enable customers to receive their policies in a more secure format."
"Furthermore," he added, "ePolicy will help reduce the amount of trees consumed and the pollution caused by the byproducts of paper production."
Chubb said ePolicy will enable customers to receive their policies and related policy documents via e-mail and store them electronically as securely encrypted PDF attachments. Customers can then access documents on their laptops from any location.
"This portability is especially important following a disaster in which customers' personal files may have been destroyed along with their homes," the announcement said.
"Beginning this September, we will phase-in and promote our new ePolicy nationwide," said Mr. McElwee. "If 20 percent of our customers opt to receive ePolicy renewals and endorsements, we will save approximately 1,000 trees and nearly one million gallons of water and prevent the creation of 46 tons of solid waste and emission of 113 tons of greenhouse gases."
