The Marines aren't the only ones looking for a few good young men and women.
The Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey Inc. and the New Jersey Young Insurance Professionals have launched Project Y, a Web site aimed at raising the interest of undergraduates in pursuing a career in the insurance industry.
According to the associations, the site (www.projectynj.org) is intended to position itself as a one-stop resource center for college undergraduates in New Jersey who are considering insurance as their profession.
“There is a large gap in the insurance business between the number of agents retiring and the number entering the field, which puts the future of the industry into question,” said Jack Lynn, president of PIANJ, in a statement.
Mr. Lynn added, “What students don't realize is that the need for insurance is constant and always expanding, creating a continuous need for educated professionals in the industry and a great career opportunity.”
Project Y is another step in the Agency Staffing Assistance Program being developed by PIANJ and NJYIP. The program was created to help PIANJ members recognize, recruit and train good employees.
Mr. Lynn, a partner at Dalton Insurance Agency, LLC, in Glassboro, N.J., told National Underwriter that the Staffing Assistance Program is a promotional tool that involves video presentations, literature and personal outreach at schools and colleges to engage students and raise their interest in the industry.
The Project Y site will be utilized by agents who visit the schools and campuses to further students' interests in the industry, he said.
The aim of the site is to draw attention to the many advantages of a career in insurance. Using a combination of photos and informational stories, the site informs visitors of the rewards a career in the insurance industry can offer them.
The site, said Mr. Lynn, is in its initial stages but will eventually serve as a platform where students can post resumes and look for positions in the industry. And potential employers will be able to view those resumes as they look to fill job openings.
When asked how long it will be before these features are available on the site, he said it would be very soon.
