Richard J. Sullivan, the general counsel for insurance broker Marsh, won nomination to be a district judge on the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Sullivan's nomination was approved by the Senate last week by a vote of 99-0.
In a statement, New York-based Marsh & McLennan Companies congratulated him on his appointment.
“This is a tremendous honor for Rich and we are very proud that his nomination received unanimous approval by the U.S. Senate,” said Michael G. Cherkasky, MMC president and chief executive. “This appointment is a testament to his years of hard work and public service.”
“During the past two years, Rich has made an enormous contribution to Marsh and our legal department,” said Peter J. Beshar, general counsel at MMC. “He is wise, witty and fair–qualities that will serve him well on the federal bench.”
Mr. Sullivan joined MMC as deputy general counsel for litigation in 2005, after 11 years with the United States Attorney's Office in Manhattan. He was named general counsel of Marsh in 2006.
