Zurich, Switzerland-based insurer Zurich Financial Services Group, said it named Brandon S. Mathews, 37, as head of its microinsurance program.
Mr. Mathews is responsible for implementing the company's initiative to identify and refine microinsurance's best practices and to export those solutions around the world.
He joins Zurich from American International Group where he was responsible for extended warranty products in Latin America, and before that, for the delivery and servicing of those products in markets outside North America.
In February, Zurich announced it entered into a partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to initiate its microinsurance program. The Agency for Development and Cooperation is a government agency that coordinates development activities.
The microinsurance program seeks to expand insurance coverage in developing countries to the disadvantaged in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
