BB&T Insurance Services said it has acquired Hilton Head Island, S.C.-based Carswell Insurance Services. Terms of the deal were not released.
Founded in 1958, Carswell provides commercial and personal property-casualty coverage as well as group benefits insurance to the regions coastal area. In addition to its main office on Hilton Head Island, Carswell also has an office in nearby Bluffton, S.C.
Wade Reece, president of BB&T Insurance Services, a subsidiary of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based banking institution BB&T Corp., said the brokerage firm has been waiting for an opportunity to expand into the greater Hilton Head and Carswell fits with those plans.
The transaction is expected to be completed in early July. The agency will keep its staff of 45 employees, BB&T said.
