Boston-based Liberty Mutual Agency Markets, a strategic business unit of Liberty Mutual Group, said James M. McGlennon has been appointed its vice president and chief information officer.

The announcement said that Mr. McGlennon is now responsible for the overall information technology and architecture of Agency Markets and ensuring successful strategic delivery of the business unit's processes and technology initiatives.

Liberty said the new appointee will also oversee strategy, planning, application development, maintenance and support of the Agency Markets technology portfolio, including the implementation of high value business improvements, additional flexible rating solutions, and enhanced agent and customer facing capabilities.

Mr. McGlennon will report to Liberty Mutual Group's senior vice president and chief information officer, Stuart McGuigan.

Prior to joining Liberty Mutual Agency Markets, Mr. McGlennon oversaw architecture and development as vice president of BellSouth Corporation with responsibility for all phases of software development for the company's domestic communications business.

Mr. McGlennon has also held senior technology positions with Fleet Financial Corp., Computer Science Corp. and Digital Equipment Corp.
