The Association of Average Adjusters of the United States said it has created a new class of membership, Marine Hull Claims Professional.
The designation provides a means for people involved in the adjustment of marine claims to attain a newly created professional qualification by successfully completing a series of modular exams while being mentored by a full member of the association, the group said.
The new designation recognizes that the industry needs professionals to meet the demands of clients, brokers and increasingly the regulatory environment, said the association.
The designation offers recognition to individuals who provide the claims adjusting services for United States marine insurers who write over $300 million in hull business annually.
Organized in 1879, the association currently has over 700 members including practicing average adjusters, maritime lawyers, vessel owners, marine underwriters and brokers, and other maritime professionals from around the world.
“Average” means a loss or expense affecting a ship or its cargo.
