A laptop has been stolen from an Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation auditor, containing claim information for 439 injured employees working for 24 self-insured employers, officials said.

Bureau spokesman Kerry McCarthy said the laptop, reported stolen from the Columbus home of auditor Nine Twitty on May 30, contains claimants' names, claim numbers, Social Security numbers and possibly their medical diagnoses.

The auditor is responsible for reviewing self-insured programs.

The BWC said it is notifying employers and claimants and will offer free identity protection services for affected workers.
