The Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) said it has added a new employee safety training feature to its Online University, which offers training for risk management, safety and human resources/employee benefits professionals in the public sector.
The new training feature is provided by the University's first innovation training partner, the National Institute for Workplace Safety (NIWS), PRIMA said.
NIWS offers more than 140 training courses including: workplace safety, ergonomics, defensive driving, first aid, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, emergency planning and disaster issues, leadership, and sexual harassment prevention. Courses are available in both English and Spanish.
"I think the benefits of online training are innumerable," said PRIMA President Bill Kostner. "Our Online University allows public risk management, safety and human resources/employee benefit professionals to take courses specially selected to meet their training needs."
He added that with online learning, "managers can reduce travel costs to their entity while allowing their staff to train any time, any where."
Though the site is available to all professionals, PRIMA members receive a 10 percent discount on courses. Each training course combines the latest in adult learning with the industry's most comprehensive and effective online training portal, PRIMA said. Each lesson also contains a test to measure and document course comprehension.
Mr. Kostner said, "Risk and benefits managers can train, track and schedule training from their desktop, and they have a record of safety training in the event of an incident."
