Haake Companies–the 2005 winner of National Underwriter's "Commercial Insurance Agency of the Year" award–has named Jeff Cox, 41, as its new president and chief executive officer, the Overland Park, Kan.-based firm announced.

Charlie Haake, 58, the former CEO and president, will now be chairman of the firm. He will focus on sales, marketing and developing new business initiatives, a company spokeswoman said.

"Haake has been one of this area's fastest-growing insurance agencies, with major expansion, especially over the last several years," said Mr. Haake. "Jeff's extensive experience, energy and industry reputation make him the ideal leader for our company's future."

Mr. Cox's career background, Haake said, includes heading his own third-party administrator firm, Alternative Risk Services, which was sold to Lockton Companies, where Mr. Cox was president and chief operating officer of Lockton Affinity.

In the 80-year history of Haake, Mr. Cox is the first non-family member to head up the company, the firm said.
