A new Cayman Islands reinsurer opened up last week to provide capacity for natural catastrophe risks.
Gamut Reinsurance Ltd. began operations after raising $310 million through institutional investors utilizing collateralized debt obligations, a limited time securitization vehicle.
The private placement was underwritten by Goldman Sachs & Co. and Swiss Re Capital Markets, a member of the Zurich-based insurer.
