Germany's Finance Minister Peer Steinbruck will address the annual meeting of the International Insurance Society next month in Berlin, IIS announced.
Mr. Steinbruck will deliver the keynote speech at the session co-hosted by the German Insurance Association July 8-11.
"We are very pleased to have a keynote speaker of this stature at our meeting," said Patrick Kenny, president and chief executive officer of ISS.
Financial and political issues, along with Mr. Steinbruck's views on the emergence of Solvency II--the European Commissions ambitious regulatory project--and the fast-growing industry of hedge funds will be a few key points mentioned in the speech, IIS said.
Mr. Steinbruck is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) as well as the Federal Minister of Finance in the cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
IIS said Mr. Steinbruck's career has been dedicated to politics and serving the federal government. Mr. Steinbruck was most recently the minister of economic and small-to-medium enterprises in Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
The German Insurance Association represents the positions of the German insurance industry before society, politicians, businesses, the media and academia.
The International Insurance Society is a nonprofit corporation with over 1,000 corporate and individual members from 92 countries.
ISS provides information, education and networking opportunities for companies and individuals seeking insurance contacts.
