A Washington-based captive organization said it is holding a seminar Tuesday on how the health care industry can obtain affordable professional liability coverage using risk retention groups.

The Captive Insurance Council of the District of Columbia (CIC-DC) said the session is titled “Solving Health Care Liability Risks Through Alternative Risk Transfer.”

The meeting at the Marriott Metro Center will provide information on how alternative risk transfer (ART), and more specifically risk retention groups (RRGs), can provide an effective solution, CIC-DC said.

The curriculum shows how ART and RRGs can offer solutions for affordable professional liability coverage. Among other topics, CIC-DC said the program will also feature information on Washington, D.C.'s new captive statute.

Seminar speakers include Larry Smith, vice president, corporate risk management, MedStar Health; Jon Harkavy, vice president & general counsel, Risk Services, LLC; Allen Taft, president, The Taft Companies; William Boone, senior vice president, Marsh; and Thomas M. Jones, partner, McDermott, Will & Emery.
