Philadelphia-based Insurance Education Institute and the Reinsurance Association of America said they have awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to William H. Panning, Willis Re executive vice president and managing director.

RAA President Frank Nutter and Insurance Education Institute President Larry Forrester presented the award yesterday at the RAA's annual Current Issues Forum at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The organizations said the Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize insurance professionals who are champions of education and professional development and whose organizations have supported both the Insurance Education Institute and the Reinsurance Association of America.

“Bill Panning's unfailing commitment to young professionals in our industry should be a standard for other educators,” said Mr. Nutter. “His ability to engage his students about the complexities of risk management is unparalleled, and we are proud to recognize him as a champion of continuing education.”

IEI President Larry Forrester said Mr. Panning had shown “leadership and passion to improve the industry's ability to measure, understand and manage risk,” and he “is a premier role model for young people.”

Mr. Panning, it was noted, has been educating business professionals since 1974 and for the last three decades has been a researcher, author and educator working to improve the insurance industry's understanding of enterprise risk management.
