Donna Galer and Roger Andrews have been named chairman and president, respectively, of the Spenser Education Foundation Inc., the organization said.
The announcement came yesterday at the annual Risk and Insurance Management Society meeting in New Orleans.
Ms. Galer formerly served as executive vice president of Zurich Financial Services. She started her career in 1973 and spent the last 17 years with Zurich.
She is a member of the RIMS Professional Development Advisory Committee, the Editorial Board of the John Liner Review and the Board of Visitors of Wake Forest's Calloway School of Business.
Mr. Andrews is director of risk management for E.D. Bullard Co., a major manufacturer of personal protective equipment including hard hats, fire helmets, respiratory equipment and thermal image cameras.
He has been active in RIMS for 23 years in various capacities, including serving a term as president of the Society in 2000-2001. He has served as president and director of the RIMS Bluegrass Chapter in Lexington, Ky., and currently serves as a RIMS delegate and co-chair of the Western Regional Conference for the Utah Chapter.
The Foundation said that since 1980, it has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships and $1.7 million in grants to students pursuing degrees in, and universities offering programs for, risk management and insurance.
In other Spenser Foundation news:
o The foundation received a $24,000 donation from the RIMS Los Angeles chapter to be used to supplement risk and insurance management student enrichment programs, scholarships and university grants.
o The group also received a $100,000 commitment from XL Capital Ltd. over a four-year period in memory of Ian Heap, XL's first chairman.
