A light-hearted survey conducted by Progressive examines some of the reasons behind the unique claims made by drivers of recreational vehicles, or RVs.
Progressive surveyed more than 1,000 RV owners to find out some of the amusing and at times embarrassing blunders they've made while traveling, the company said. The study's results found that the most common mistakes that drivers of RVs make while operating their vehicles are: driving away with the steps extended, backing up into a post or other stationary object, misjudging the amount of overhead and/or side clearance space, not connecting the tail lights correctly, and running out of fuel.
But it's not just operating an RV that some people have trouble doing. Though unrelated to claim activity, two percent of RV drivers surveyed admitted to mistakenly leaving a passenger behind at a campground, rest area, or other stop while traveling in their RV. The person left behind most often? A spouse or significant other.
Pets and grandparents, on the other hand, were the least likely to be left behind. We'll leave it to armchair psychologists to debate the meaning of this finding.
