The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. in Hartford, Conn., announced today that Judith A. Patterson has been named president of the subsidiary First State Management Group (FSMG).
Ms. Patterson is currently executive vice president of FSMG, which primarily underwrites surplus lines insurance for high risk accounts and distributes this coverage through licensed wholesalers.
The Hartford said she will assume overall responsibility for the Boston-based operations effective May 1. Ms. Patterson will replace Ralph J. Palmieri, who is retiring after 31 years with FSMG and The Hartford.
Ms. Patterson started her career with The Hartford in 1975. She assumed her present position in 2004, where she is responsible for directing underwriting operations, business systems, office services, communications, ceded reinsurance, and regulatory and compliance matters, the company said.
Gary Thompson, executive vice president of middle market and specialty commercial for The Hartford's property and casualty operations- more -, called Ms. Patterson a leader at the company and in the surplus lines insurance market. Mr. Palmieri, he said, leaves “a legacy of achievement and a platform from which First State Management Group can continue succeeding.”
