Claims News Service, Mar. 28, 4:45 p.m. EDT — A pioneering partnership between a commercial and construction equipment manufacturer and the National Equipment Register will help in the recovery of large commercial equipment lost through theft, and help insurance companies decrease their claim costs.

Multiquip, a supplier of compaction equipment, concrete and masonry cutting, placing and finishing products, power generation equipment, dewatering pumps, lighting solutions and other construction equipment, will register equipment that it sells with the National Equipment Register, a database company dedicated to helping equipment owners deter theft and recover stolen equipment. This registration will allow police officers and officials to quickly identify the true owner of a Multiquip machine at any time, and will help insurance companies decrease claim costs.

"Equipment thieves have held the upper hand for too long and we, as manufacturers, now have an opportunity to take back the initiative from the thieves before the problem grows to a level where regulation and registration is forced upon our customers," said Roger Euliss, president of Multiquip, in a release.

"Although NER has millions of records already, this partnership guarantees identification for any Multiquip machine and it is natural that police will be encouraged to look at more Multiquip machines due to the greater likelihood of success," said David Shillingford, president of NER. "Multiquip machines have just become a much worse risk for equipment thieves."
