Willis Re, the reinsurance arm of London-headquartered insurance broker Willis Group Holdings, said it is opening a branch in Seattle.

The new office will be managed by Doug May, who has been appointed as executive vice president.

Prior to joining Willis, Mr. May served as a managing director at Guy Carpenter in Seattle.

Paddy Jago, chief executive officer of Willis Re, said the opening of the office positions the firm for expansion in the Northwest and the West Coast.

Willis also announced that Perry Golkin, who has served on the board of directors since 1998, will not seek re-election.

Mr. Golkin was the last remaining member of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. on the board. KKR purchased Willis in 1998, taking it private. It became a public company again in 2001.

The Willis board consists of 11 members, 10 of whom are independent, the firm said.
