U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., House chief deputy whip, will speak to members of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America during its Washington Legislative Conference and Convention, the group said.
Ms. Wasserman Schultz will address the Young Agents/InsurPac luncheon on April 25.
The Alexandria, Va.-based IIABA's conference is due to run April 25-27 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.
Charles E. Symington Jr., IIABA senior vice president for government affairs and federal relations, said Rep. Wasserman Schultz as a former member of the House Financial Services Committee "is well versed in the issues that are important to independent agents and brokers, and we're looking forward to hearing her thoughts on insurance regulation, natural disaster issues and other topics."
Ms. Wasserman Schultz began her political career at age 26 as a member of the Florida House. She was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Florida's 20th district in 2004 and served on the House Financial Services Committee in her first term.
In addition to her role in the House Democratic leadership, she currently is a House Appropriations Subcommittee chairwoman and a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
The IIABA said its conference includes an issues briefing session, trade show, a congressional reception on Capitol Hill and appearances by numerous high-profile speakers.
