Marsh Inc. insurance brokerage said former Vice President Al Gore will be the keynote speaker at the firm's client breakfast, which coincides with next month's Risk & Insurance Management Society conference.
Mr. Gore is due to appear May 1. RIMS conference is scheduled for April 29-May 3 in New Orleans.
Mr. Gore--whose film, "An Inconvenient Truth," won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary--will discuss issues related to climate change and global risk during the breakfast, which is expected to be attended by more than 800 of the firm's clients and employees, Marsh said.
"Climate change has emerged as a top concern of business and government leaders around the world," said Brian Storms, chairman and chief executive officer of Marsh.
Mr. Gore, he said, is due to share his perspective and insights on climate change and other global issues with Marsh risk management clients from business enterprises and public entities around the world.
It is particularly significant, Mr. Storms said, that Mr. Gore will address this gathering in New Orleans, which continues to recover from Hurricane Katrina, the costliest and one of the most deadly hurricanes in U.S. history.
Mr. Storms said Katrina, together with the other significant storms that hit the U.S. southeast seaboard during 2005, had "elevated the scientific debate around global climate change and sharpened the focus of America's government and business leaders on this issue."
