Hanover Insurance Group Inc., based in Worcester, Mass., announced today that Edward J. Parry III, the firm's executive vice president and chief financial officer, will leave the company June 15 “to pursue other career opportunities.”

The company said in the wake of Mr. Parry's resignation a search for his successor is underway.

Mr. Parry, 47, joined the company as a mergers and acquisitions specialist in 1992 and has served as CFO since 1996.

Frederick H. Eppinger, chief executive officer of The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., said Mr. Parry was instrumental in “efforts to reposition our company, strengthen our financial position, improve the efficiency of technology services, and develop the framework for significant improvements to our claims organization.”

“We respect his decision to pursue other career opportunities and wish him all the best in the future,” he continued.

The company said Mr. Parry will serve as a director of the company until his term ends May 15 and will not stand for re-election.

The Hanover Insurance Group Inc. is the holding company for property-casualty insurers including Hanover Insurance Company, also based in Worcester; Citizens Insurance Company of America, headquartered in Howell, Mich.; and their affiliates.
