The South Carolina Captive Insurance Association Inc. (SCCIA) announced today that its June meeting will focus heavily on legislative and regulatory impacts that the current congressional session has on the state's captive insurance industry.

The group's 4th Annual Midyear Executive Forum will take place June 19-20, at the Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, S.C.

South Carolina officials said captive insurance programs contribute more than $300 million annually to the state's economy. Captive insurance is a form of self-insurance, an alternative method to managing risk.

The Midyear Executive Forum provides a place to network and get updated on current events in the South Carolina captive insurance industry, said Tommy Bolton, vice president of SCCIA's education committee and a senior manager with Johnson Lambert & Co. of Charleston.

Regular speakers at the conference include Eleanor Kitzman, director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance, and David L. Thomas, chairman of the South Carolina Senate Subcommittee on Banking and Insurance. The Captive/ARTS Division staff of the Department of Insurance also regularly attends and updates attendees on any changes to the regulatory process, according to SCCIA.
