Richard J. Decker, president of AIG Global Marine, was elected chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) at its annual meeting in New York. He becomes the 48th chairman since AIMU was established in 1898.

Mr. Decker succeeds Robert V. Huffert, senior vice president and manager of the ocean marine department and vice president of Munich Reinsurance America.

He joined AIG Global Marine in April and is responsible for the commercial marine portfolio globally. His experience in the insurance industry dates back to 1969, AIMU said.

Mr. Decker is also deputy chairman of the National Cargo Bureau and chairman of the Committee on Pilots of the Board of Underwriters of New York.
