SunGard has acquired Carnot, AG. of Frankfurt, Germany, a provider of business process management (BPM) software that helps enterprises model, deploy, execute, monitor, and optimize their business processes. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but it is not expected to have a material impact on SunGard's financial results.

Carnot helps insurers and other business users to define their business processes in a business model containing information on the model's components and organizational structure. These models can be debugged and deployed to a runtime environment directly from the Carnot modeling desktop. Carnot is a J2EE-based solution. It will be offered as a stand-alone product, as part of SunGard's EXP solution suite, and within other SunGard systems.

"BPM technology has emerged as an essential tool to help improve the agility and efficiency of business processes," says Till Guldimann, vice chairman of SunGard. "The acquisition of Carnot will help improve our ability to assist our customers in designing their processes and deploying our solutions in an optimal fashion."
