Tom Rodell has been named chairman of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, the group said.

Mr. Rodell, who had held the post in 2001, was elected chairman for 2007 during a general membership meeting at the association's 93rd annual Insurance Leadership Forum in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

He is resident managing director of Aon Risk Services of San Francisco and has spent more than 30 years in risk management.

Mr. Rodell succeeds Charles R. Daniels III, executive vice president of Rose and Kiernan Inc. of East Greenbush, NY, as CIAB chairman.

During Mr. Rodell's term as chairman in 2001, he and other CIAB officers, as well as officers of the Council of Insurance Company Executives, decided to cancel the 2001 CIAB Greenbrier meeting in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

That event severely impacted Mr. Rodell's firm, where 176 employees who worked at the firm's World Trade Center offices lost their lives.

"We asked Tom to come back and serve another term, and we are grateful he agreed to honor us with his leadership for a second time," said J. Hyatt Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of Brown & Brown Inc. of Daytona Beach, Fla., a past chairman and head of the nominating committee that proposed the slate of officers.

As chairman, Mr. Rodell will lead a committee of officers that includes George A. "Shad" Steadman, president and chief operating officer of Rutherfoord of Roanoke, Va., who will serve as vice chairman; Markham McKnight, executive vice president and director of BancorpSouth Insurance Services Inc., Baton Rouge, La., serving as treasurer; and H. Wade Reece, president of BB&T Insurance Services of Raleigh, N.C., serving as secretary.
