Thomas R. Tizzio, senior advisor at American International Group, has been named honorary fundraising chairman for Spencer Educational Foundation Inc., it was announced today.
Mr. Tizzio will help the foundation, an affiliate of the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS), raise funds for scholarships to support students studying risk management.
Mr. Tizzio served as president of AIG from 1991 to 1997, and was responsible for AIG's worldwide property-casualty business. After joining the AIG organization in 1967, Mr. Tizzio was active in the company's growth and development, particularly in domestic general insurance operations.
Since 1980, more than $2.6 million in scholarships and $1.4 million in grants have been awarded by the Spencer Educational Foundation to risk management students and universities throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, to further risk management education.
In 2006, the foundation awarded $375,000 in scholarships and $145,000 in grants.
