Spencer Educational Foundation Inc., a Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS) affiliate, has created a $100,000 college scholarship fund for Georgia students of insurance and risk management.
The “RIMS Atlanta Chapter Scholarship” is being made possible by a donation by RIMS Atlanta Chapter.
RIMS said that money received from the Atlanta Chapter will be awarded as undergraduate scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to Georgia residents pursuing an undergraduate degree in risk management or insurance. Spencer will award the first RIMS Atlanta Chapter Scholarship in 2007.
The RIMS Atlanta Chapter Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship, will be granted annually to those meeting all of Spencer's academic requirements.
RIMS Atlanta Chapter has been a supporter of the Spencer Educational Foundation for 26 years, donating from proceeds of its annual educational conference and golf tournaments.
Since 1980, RIMS said, Spencer has awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships and $1.4 million in grants to risk management students and universities.
In 2006, the foundation awarded $375,000 in scholarships and $145,000 in grants. Contributions to the foundation, RIMS said, are tax deductible.
