The Palisades companies, a New Jersey-based group of independent agency companies, was ranked the largest New Jersey auto insurer without one valid consumer complaint in 2005 by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. It is the second consecutive year it has earned the designation.

"We bill ourselves as 'the nice New Jersey car insurance company,' " said Ed Fernandez, Palisades' president and CEO. " Maybe it's a bit corny, but our motto reflects our single-minded focus on customer service."

The company is unconventional in its customer service, offering a door-to-door valet claim service in which Palisades arranges for a customer's damaged car to be picked up and taken to a repair shop. Once repaired, the car is returned to the customer for no additional charge, and repairs are guaranteed as long as the customer owns the car.

Palisades also offers a program called Crashbusters, which consists of a fleet of 10 vans that will go to a wrecked vehicle's location to appraise the damage. In most cases, the Crashbusters appraiser can issue a reimbursement check to the customer on the spot, according to Palisades.
