Darwin Professional Underwriters Inc. today announced the launch of a new Web site dedicated to educating agents, brokers and commercial insurance purchasers about technology and information liabilities.
According to Farmington, Conn.-based Darwin, www.tech-404.com addresses risks facing commercial businesses, including cyber liability, Internet liability and technology errors and omissions.
“These risks are converging to create new areas of liability for traditional businesses that are technology dependent,” said Drew Bartkiewicz, assistant vice president for Darwin's technology and information liability initiatives.
He added, “Identity theft is just the tip of the iceberg, and companies should absolutely be taking steps to protect their confidential customer data.”
Mr. Bartkiewicz said that other exposures such as malicious codes, network security, intellectual property theft, network failures, third-party business interruption, media and copyright infringement are growing areas of concern.
Insurance coverage for technology and information exposures is “often limited and inadequate to address the growing sophistication of business and technology infrastructures, the company noted. The Web site provides several resources, including industry-specific claims scenarios and a technology glossary of commonly used terms.
The Web site currently focuses on exposures within the health care, financial services, e-commerce and technology industries, said Darwin.
Darwin is a specialty insurance group focused on the professional liability insurance market.
