American International Group said it is offering affluent policyholders in three Florida coastal counties complimentary hurricane preparedness and protection advice.

The New York-based insurer said Hurricane Protection Unit, providing the service through its Private Client Group, will send a specialist to meet with the policyholder and map out a plan to respond to a hurricane, including times at which action is to be taken.

The specialist will also recommend home improvements aimed at better protecting the house against a hurricane.

After a hurricane, AIG said company professionals will respond quickly to assess damage and deliver other services such as informing clients of the extent of home damage, supplying generators and tarpaulins, boarding up damaged areas, and commencing a home interior drying-out process.

AIG said during the initial roll-out the Hurricane Protection Unit would only be available to its Private Client Group policyholders who live in the Florida counties of Collier, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.
