The Insurance Marketing Communications Association said Nationwide Insurance has received its SAMMY Award and The Hartford was honored with seven Best of Show awards at the group's recent annual meeting.

IMCA said that at the presentation of 2006 Showcase Awards last week in San Francisco, Nationwide received the top SAMMY Award for its entry, "Rocket Lunge," in the Television Advertising category.

The SAMMY is given for the overall Best of Show and is voted on by the attending IMCA members.

Now in its 48th year, the competition features entries in 35 categories including advertising, sales promotion, multimedium campaigns, TV/radio, the Internet, employee communications, annual reports, e-commerce, community service and public relations.

Ron Rice, IMCA president, said IMCA had a record 370 entries for the 2006 Showcase Awards, and Adobe Systems Inc. presented the organization's Your Best Design award.

The Hartford's seven awards included the Your Best Design award for its Management Liability kit. Other multiple Best of Show winners included SAFECO Insurance with five awards, and Allstate Insurance, AMS Services, Farmers Insurance and Foremost Insurance Group each with two.

The IMCA is an international organization of insurance communications professionals specializing in marketing, communications, advertising, sales promotion, public relations and media relations.

IMCA calls itself the oldest insurance association in North America, having begun as the Insurance Advertising Conference (IAC) in 1923. The group was renamed in 1984.
