Edward J. Amsler is the new chairman of the Physician Insurers Association of America, the physician-operated carriers group announced today.
Mr. Amsler is vice president of the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company in New York, the nation's largest mutual professional liability insurance company in the nation, PIAA said.
He replaces the outgoing chairman, Dr. Sultan Ahamed, chief executive officer of Connecticut Medical Insurance Company in Glastonbury, Conn.
Lawrence Smarr, president of the PIAA, said Mr. Amsler is "dedicated to creating a medical liability environment in which injured patients receive fair and prompt compensation and doctors can focus on patients, not litigation."
Besides his MLMIC post, Mr. Amsler is a partner at Fager & Amsler law firm and president of Donald J. Fager & Associates, MLMIC's administrative services provider. Mr. Amsler serves on the American Bar Association Tort and Insurance Section.
