The New York-based Inland Marine Underwriters Association said James Drewry was elected chairman during the group's recent annual meeting in Ponte Verdra, Fla.

Mr. Drewry is vice president, direct property facultative, of American Re based in Princeton, N.J., a subsidiary of Munich Re.

Richard Soja, senior vice president, global manager, with Chubb Marine Underwriters, a subsidiary of Warren, N.J.-based Chubb Group, was elected IMUA deputy chairman, and Sophia Phillips, vice president of commercial lines marine, The Hanover Insurance Group of Worcester, Mass., was elected vice chairman.

All three will serve in their positions for two years, the association said.

During the conference the new chairman urged members to volunteer on regional advisory committees and technical committees as a way to connect with other members to learn more and thus become a more valuable professional.

Mr. Drewry said technology has made distance no longer an issue to participation and it will be helped by improvements to the IMUA's Web site.

He also challenged members to help boost attendance at upcoming IMUA Webinars scheduled for the coming year.
