CDS Business Mapping, LLC–an online provider of property risk mapping data–said it has added additional states to its bank of fire station information, bringing the total to 41.
The Boston-based company said it now includes Arkansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah in the RiskMeter Online Distance to Fire Station Report (www.RiskMeter.com) and covers every state east of the Mississippi.
CDS said the RiskMeter report uses routing technology to determine the distance to the three closest fire stations to a property being evaluated.
By typing in an address, CDS said RiskMeter Online users can get a detailed report in seconds that returns drive distance to responding fire stations, names of the stations and staffing.
“Regardless of the training, personnel or equipment at a station, if an insured location is greater than 5 miles from a station, the chance of a large loss is inevitable,” explained James Munson, CDS Business Mapping director of consulting services.
Mr. Munson said the report will immediately verify the distance from responding fire stations, and help carriers decide early in the underwriting process whether a location is protected or not.

According to CDS, the RiskMeter can perform more than 30 different lookups, including distance to coast, rating territory, flood zone, windpool eligibility, proximity to brush and environmental quality hazards.
