Neal Abernathy has been named chief executive officer of Swett & Crawford, the Woodland Hills, Calif.-based wholesale insurance broker announced.

Mr. Abernathy, who is currently the firm's president and chief operating officer, last year with board Chairman Dave Hartoch, led the company through its divesture from Aon Corp. and its formation as an independent company.

The new CEO will continue as president as well, the company said.

Mr. Hartoch said in a statement that Mr. Abernathy was an ideal choice for the position citing his "boundless energy, infinite enthusiasm, excellent communications skills and management acumen."

Swett & Crawford also announced that it is moving its corporate offices from Woodland Hills, Calif. to Atlanta as part of a plan to streamline and consolidate administrative and support functions under Mr. Abernathy's leadership.

We are positioning Swett for significant growth by hiring new producers and pursuing strategic acquisitions," said Mr. Abernathy."
