WASHINGTON–The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America presented several awards for legislative accomplishments yesterday to a group of agent members for their leadership in government affairs and to a congressman.
The awards were given during the Alexandria, Va.-based association's National Legislative Conference and Convention here in Washington, D.C., this week.
Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga. received the Gerald Solomon-Legislator of the Year Award for his activity in Congress on a number of insurance issues.
He received the award for sponsoring a successful amendment that eliminated funding for the Premium Reduction Plan crop insurance program for one year.
IIABA said he has been involved in many important issues for agents, including class action reform, terrorism risk insurance and the proposed elimination of the estate tax.
The Solomon Award is named in honor of the late Congressman Gerald Solomon, R-N.Y., a former House Rules Committee chairman and IIABA member who championed independent agent and broker legislative concerns.
The association also presented William Hofmann, an independent agent in Belmont, Mass., with the Sidney O. Smith Award for his “tireless work in promoting the legislative goals of the association and its political arm, InsurPac.”
The Professional Independent Insurance Agents of West Virginia received the Maurice Herndon Award for its legislative accomplishments in 2005.
