Charlotte, N.C.-based insurance wholesaler American Wholesale Insurance Group (AmWINS) said it has completed its acquisition of Irving, Texas based Web-TPA, Inc.
Terms of the transaction were not released. Web-TPA is a third party insurance administrator focusing on self-funded employers and insurance companies.
On its Web site, Web-TPA said it offers a suite of health plan administrative technology and outsourcing solutions to meet the needs of managed care organizations, including provider-sponsored health plans, insurance companies, HMOs, third party administration, networks and large self-funded employers.
Web-TPA developed and operates its proprietary iii:PUTTM system that allows each client to have a HIPAA-compliant private label offering, flexible benefit plan design and selection of third party vendors, such as networks and pharmacies.
Web-TPA said was formed in 1993 out of a consulting practice established by former partners and consultants of Coopers & Lybrand. It has received $9 million in investment capital from investment firms. An AmWINS spokesman said Web-TPA employs 120 associates.
"The addition of Web-TPA is in keeping with our overall strategy to provide increased product offerings and expertise to our retail agency customers," said Steven DeCarlo, AmWINS president and chief executive officer. "The synergy that exists between Web TPA and National Employee Benefit Companies, an AmWINS company, will result in new product offerings and increased customer service to a larger client base."
"Bringing Web-TPA into American Wholesale is significant," said Samuel Fleet, President of AmWINS Group Benefits Division. "Web-TPA's services and community based health plan products complement NEBCO's existing offerings and provide a platform for us to build new and innovative products around. What makes the acquisition so logical is that Web-TPA has the best proprietary claims-paying platform in the industry and, like NEBCO, is known for its excellent customer service."
