Feeney Bill Advocates for CSAs

Congressman Tom Feeney from Orlando, with the strong backing of Florida's CFO Tom Gallagher, filed a bill last month to create Catastrophe Savings Accounts (CSAs) that would allow the state's homeowners to put aside tax-free money to help offset potentially major catastrophes. The CSAs could be used to accumulate funds to cover deductible expenses, uninsured losses, and structural upgrades that could mitigate damage from future storms.

At that early stage, Feeney's bill also had gained the support of others in the Florida congressional delegation, including Representatives Mario and Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Katherine Harris, Ginny Brown-Waite, Mike Bilirakis, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Ric Keller, Jeff Miller, Connie Mack IV, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and Alcee Hastings.
