The Doctors Company said it is dropping malpractice insurance rates by an average of 18 percent in Texas beginning April 1 for new policies and July 1 for renewing coverage.
The Napa, Calif.-based physician-owned medical malpractice insurance provider credited the decrease to passage of Proposition 12, which capped pain and suffering awards in medical malpractice cases back in 2003.
The company said policyholders will see premium reductions ranging from 10-to-45.8 percent depending upon location of practice, area of specialty and coverage limits.
Doctors Company said this is the second rate decrease it has announced within the past year in the state, decreasing rates on average by one-third since passage of the tort reform proposition.
