Ray Carless has been named executive chairman of Guy Carpenter & Company Inc.'s Australia, New Zealand and Pacific operations, the company said.
His appointment is effective March 27.
Mr. Carless will be based in Sydney, Australia, reporting to Martin Burrough, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Region.
Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Mr. Carless, 51, spent 18 years with Benfield Australia. During his time with the company, he served on the group board for 10 years, among other appointments. From 1986 to 2000, he was leader of Benfield's Australia and New Zealand operations.
Mr. Carless assumes the responsibilities previously held by John Richardson, who will remain as a director on the board of Guy Carpenter.
Guy Carpenter is the reinsurance brokerage subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc.
